Darrell Grand Moultrie is currently performing on Broadway in the new hit musical Billy Elliot. This Juilliard graduate is emerging as one of America's very diverse and much sought after choreographers and master teachers. The New York Times wrote, "Moultrie moves his dancers around stage with remarkable authority... [and] is obviously someone to watch." He has carved out a career that defines his versatility — from the broadway stage, to the ballet studio, and beyond. He has choreographed national commercials for Mastercard, Mod's hair products, Schick Quattro 4 razor, and has done work for the Dave Chappelle Show. He staged Unspeakable, a play on Richard Pryor for the New York City Fringe Theater Festival directed by Rod Gailes.
In 2006, he was the youngest judge on the panel for the Miss America pageant in Las Vegas. Darrell has coached many young dancers who have gone on to dance in Broadway Musicals, Major contemporary and ballet companies, and perform with top recording artists like Beyonce and Usher. Darrell's work has been performed by Ailey2, North Carolina Dance Theater, Cleo Parker Dance Ensemble, Colorado Ballet, Cincinatti Ballet, The Juilliard School, BalletMet Columbus, Milwaukee Ballet and most recently Atlanta Ballet. Currently his work is being performed Nationally and Abroad by Rasta Thomas and his Bad Boys of Dance. Darrell is a recipient of a 2007 Princess Grace Choreography Fellowship Award.
Darrell has been on the faculty at many artistic institutions across the United States including the Juilliard School, the Ailey School, Dance Theatre of Harlem, and Perry Mansfield and is currently the Director of Musical Theatre at the Harbor Conservatory of the Performing Arts.
As a performer, Mr. Moultrie was seen in West Side Story in Milan, Italy, at the world famous La Scala Opera House directed by the New York revival's current choreographer Joey McKneely and was part of the original workshops of the Public Theatre's Radiant Baby directed by George C. Wolfe and Sweet Charity. He was seen on Broadway in the smash hits Hairspary The Musical with Harvey Fierstein, and AIDA where he understudied the role of Mereb, performing opposite Toni Braxton.
