Jessica Phoenix, recently moved to NYC and started spreading the FIYAH. Most recently, she has just returned from a trip to Jamaica where she met Jamaican dancers and experienced the authenticity of Jamaican Dancehall. She was the only American guest instructor teaching at the International Dancehall Homecoming Event and competed, landing 3rd place in the first-ever International Dancehall Championships. With this experience, inspiration, opportunity and support, Jessica has decided to finally carry out her dreams.
Jessica is the owner of FIYAH Productions, which produced FIYAH! Dancehall Theater, a full production of Dancehall dance and music on the stage! Her background training is in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, and she has performed in recitals and dance shows, companies and some commercial/industry work.
Prior to moving to NYC, Jessica's dance life was abruptly stopped by a car accident. After an extended hospital stay and complete rehabilitation, she fully recovered in less than a 2 years. That experience was a true blessing that raised her level of intensity, passion, and dedication to creating a life for herself. After only a few months of relocating to Atlanta, Jessica quickly made a name for herself as a dancer and instructor.
As a blossoming choreographer, Jessica's first major work was for an MTV Networks National commercial featuring International Artist K'Naan. Jessica has toured nationally with Universoul Circus U.S. Tour 2009 & 2010 as well as King Michael International and National Tour, a live Michael Jackson tribute show traveling to Canada, New York, & the West Coast. After a few years of touring, Jessica landed a principle role in the first full production of iLuminate Dance at Six Flags Over Georgia; iLuminate was a finalist on America's Got Talent.
Even after moving to NYC, Jessica is still an active company member with iLuminate, highlighting her recent performances at Obama's Presidential Inauguration and on Magic TV in Paris, France. Jessica is very excited and thankful for the opportunity to be able to bring her FIYAH energy to new class AFRO ISLAND DANCE at Broadway Dance Center and connect with the talented students who share the same passion.
