Lisa Viola was born in San Francisco and grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she received her early dance training. Since moving to New York, she has performed with DanceExpress, Sounddance, East/West Repertory Dance Ensemble, and the Rod Rodgers Dance Company. She was a member of the Paul Taylor Dance Company from 1992-2008 and in 2004 received a Bessie Award for Sustained Achievement with the Paul Taylor Dance Company. Since retiring, she continues to teach and most recently re-staged two of Taylor’s classic works, Esplanade and Aureole at The Conservatoire de Paris. She currently is a student at The Swedish Institute for Massage Therapy and teaches Taylor-based classes around NYC.
