ISVP Professional Semester


Our ISVP Professional Semester is the international counterpart of our elite Professional Semester, providing the same comprehensive training to international students. Train alongside New York City’s best dancers, and emerge as a fiercely competitive professional both here in the US and abroad.

This 4-month course is the ideal option for advanced international dancers, ages 18-27, looking to launch their professional careers. Our comprehensive syllabus includes multi-disciplinary technique classes, practical seminars to educate you on the industry, mock auditions to provide real-world experience, and numerous networking opportunities to secure your footing as a working artist.

BDC has sought the input of countless industry professionals in crafting this powerful program designed to maximize your time with us and offer you every tool and skill you’ll need to succeed.

Here are some of the elements that make up this comprehensive full-time program:

  • M-1 Student Visa
  • Fall and spring terms
  • Concentrated week of orientation activities, including placement class with faculty panel, injury prevention seminar, and more
  • 12 classes weekly from our incomparable schedule of over 350 drop-in classes
    After a brief exploratory period, students will select a concentration discipline
  • Weekly seminars addressing every aspect of professionalism including ISVP Pro ONLY seminar with VisaPaq on applying for O-1 Artist Visa
  • Master classes and mock auditions, including singing, acting, commercial and video training and more
  • Networking opportunities with dance agencies, casting agents, and BDC faculty and guests 
  • Performance opportunities
  • Free rehearsal space

  • Full-time Student Advisor for scheduling guidance
  • End-of-program showcase at local Manhattan theater for an audience including NYC dance industry professionals

The ISVP Professional Semester is a serious full-time course of study, so it is imperative that you come prepared to give your program the highest priority. Though schedules do vary, accepted dancers should be available weekday mornings from 8-11am regularly for mandatory program events.

How to Apply

BDC offers rolling admissions. You will be notified of acceptance within 3 weeks after receipt of your completed application via email. You must have a valid email address.

Please read the following application instructions thoroughly and submit all application materials with care. Applications are considered based on dance training, marketability, and professionalism.

Applicants must submit all required M-1 Visa application materials as well as the program application elements. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

  1. Completed application form, including personal statement and short-essay questions
  2. Completed health form signed and stamped by your physician

  4. Work résumé or CV
  5. 2 letters of recommendation
  6. Headshot
  7. 2-minute video demonstrating your technical training and best personal style. Email YouTube or Vimeo link to [email protected].
    Please open your video by introducing yourself and expressing in 1-2 sentences what you hope to accomplish while studying at BDC. While we're proud to honor various disciplines, ballet is a required component of the course. Your video should demonstrate your technical training or aptitude by displaying 1 minute of straightforward center ballet-based work (e.g. tombé, pas be bourré, glissade, assemble, tendu fourth, pirouette, land fourth; and a grand jeté or saut de chat). The second minute should display your best personal style. If your personal style is tap, please also submit an additional personal style. 
  8. Current personal bank statement that shows sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses -OR- a letter of financial support and copy of supporter’s bank statement. Documents must be in English.
    • Minumum $8,000 for 4 months
    • These funds are required by the U.S. Government for non-working M-1 Visa applicants. This IS NOT tuition. You DO NOT pay this amount. You must SHOW that you have these funds in a bank statement.
  9. Copy of your valid passport    
  10. $250 non-refundable application fee

After we receive your application:
  1. We will notify you of your acceptance by email, so please write your email address clearly on your application.
    Please DO NOT make your appointment at the embassy until you have been accepted into the program.
  2. Upon acceptance, a deposit of $1,925 (half tuition) is due within 30 days to secure your spot.
  3. Once your deposit has been received, we will issue an acceptance packet containing your I-20 Certificate of Eligibility to apply for the M-1 Visa. The I-20 IS NOT the Visa.
  4. Make an appointment with the U.S. Embassy in your home country to apply for the M-1 Visa.
    PLEASE NOTE: You may only participate in the program if you enter the U.S. on BDC’s M-1 Visa. By law you may not participate in the program using a tourist visa.
  5. An additional fee of $200 USD payable to the U.S. Government Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is required for all M-1 applicants before you travel to the U.S.
    This fee must be paid prior to obtaining the M-1 Visa. Payment instructions will be included in your I-20 Acceptance Packet.
  6. The remaining balance of your tuition is due 2 weeks before the start of classes.
  7. Students may arrive in the U.S. up to 30 days prior to the start of their program and remain in the U.S. for 30 days following the end date of their program. You should arrive in New York City at least 1 week before the start of your program in order to attend your initial meeting with the Education Department.

$3,850 for 4-month semester

  • Includes all drop-in classes, seminars, master classes, performance opportunities, and counseling sessions.
  • Excludes all application fees
  • If you choose to take additional classes beyond your mandatory 12 per week, you may do so at a reduced class rate. 

In order to succeed in the program, students must arrive with the necessary funds to support their living expenses during the semester. The M-1 Visa is a non-working visa, so students are not permitted to work during their studies. Please defer your application to the following semester if you need more time to amass these funds.


  • A wire transfer directly to Broadway Dance Center is the recommended payment method. Contact us for wire details.
  • When sending payment, make sure the name of student and subject of the transfer is on the receipt. Email transfer receipt to [email protected].
  • The student is responsible for all bank fees incurred.


  • We accept Visa, American Express, and MasterCard.


  • Make payable to Broadway Dance Center.

Students whose application is refused by Immigration will receive a refund for all tuition paid, except application fees and some processing fees. These students must return the original I-20 and submit a copy of the letter from the U.S. Embassy or other proof stating reason for denial.

There are no refunds once you have begun the program, and no refunds will be given for any absences not made up during period of study.

More Information

You must provide proof of your own traveler's medical insurance before starting the program. You do not need to include this proof of insurance in your application, but you must have valid insurance before starting the program.

BDC does not provide medical insurance, but we do recommend CareMed International Travel Insurance (

BDC is not responsible for injuries or illness incurred during your program, so it is imperative that as an international student you carry medical insurance before you begin and during your course of study with Broadway Dance Center.

While BDC is unable to provide student housing, we do work closely with Student Housing Associates ( Please email [email protected], and we will connect you with our liaison at Student Housing Associates.

Broadway Dance Center will consider applications from students currently in the U.S. on M-1 and F-1 Visas; however, the two circumstances and application processes are very different

Students wishing to transfer to Broadway Dance Center’s ISVP Professional Semester must arrange a meeting with program administrators.

There is a $100 administrative fee to extend your program. More information regarding extension options will be provided upon request.
