Summer Professional Semester


Broadway Dance Center’s Summer Professional Semester offers a powerful opportunity for intensive dance training, pragmatic industry education, and invaluable networking experiences. 

The 9-week program provides a nurturing atmosphere of concentrated study to assist dancers at varying levels of technical study. We welcome serious dance students ages 18-27. Our highly acclaimed faculty offers students diverse training of unparalleled distinction, and our staff will assist and guide you as you forge your way. Our support and attention to all dancers is the cornerstone of this program that will, in short, change your life and prepare you to embark on a professional dance career.

Program Details

The Summer Professional Semester is a serious full-time course of study, so it is imperative that you come prepared to give your program highest priority.

Here are some of the elements that make up this comprehensive full-time program:

  • Concentrated week of orientation activities, including a placement class with faculty panel, an injury prevention seminar, and more
  • One-on-one schedule advising
  • 12 classes weekly from our incomparable schedule of over 350 drop-in classes
    After a brief exploratory period, students will select a concentration discipline
  • Weekly master classes and professional development seminars
  • Performance Opportunities and free rehearsal space
  • End-of-program showcase at local Manhattan theater for an audience including NYC dance industry professionals 
  • Certificate upon successful completion of the program

In many cases the Summer Professional Semester may be accepted for college credit. Please contact us for a list of universities that grant credit for the program, or speak to the Dance Department representative at your school.

How to Apply

Please read the following application instructions thoroughly and submit all application materials with care. Applications are considered based on dance training, marketability, and professionalism.

  1. Completed Application Form including personal statement and short-answer essay questions
  2. Completed Professional Semester Health Form signed and stamped by your physician
    Both forms are included in the same document HERE.
  3. Dance résumé
  4. Work résumé
  5. Two letters of recommendation
  6. Headshot or dance photo
  7. 2-minute video demonstrating your technical training and best personal style (Please email YouTube or Vimeo link to [email protected].)
    Please open your video by introducing yourself and expressing in 1-2 sentences what you hope to accomplish while studying at BDC. While we're proud to honor various disciplines, ballet is a required component of the course. Your video should demonstrate your technical training or aptitude by displaying 1 minute of straightforward center ballet-based work (e.g. tombé, pas be bourré, glissade, assemble, tendu fourth, pirouette, land fourth; and a grand jeté or saut de chat). The second minute should display your best personal style.
  8. $50 Application Fee • Pay by Credit Card

Tuition & Payment

2,250 for 9-week summer semester

  • Includes all classes, seminars, master classes, performance opportunities, rehearsals, and counseling sessions
  • If you choose to take additional classes beyond your mandatory 12 per week, you may do so at a reduced class rate.

In order to succeed in the program, students must arrive with the necessary funds to support their living expenses during the semester. Part-time work is acceptable, but we strongly advise against trying to work full-time while participating in the program. Please defer your application to the following semester if you need more time to amass these funds.

Once you are accepted into the program, a deposit of $1,125 (half tuition) is due within 30 days of acceptance to secure your spot. The remaining balance is due upon starting the program.
