This workshop has been designed specifically for the advanced beginner ballet student looking to learn the beginnings of pointe work. Students who study ballet regularly become aware very quickly of the importance of body placement and body strength as they strive to become more efficient and stronger dancers. Pointe work is the next step for the student who has learned classical ballet because it strengthens muscles and increases awareness of overall body placement. This class not only provides the guidelines necessary to develop safe technique and gain muscle strength on pointe, but the student will also receive an excellent foudation to progress to higher levels of training and to avoid bad habits and risk of injury. This workshop will introduce students to basic pointe exercises that increase strength and flexibility in the hip, inner thigh, and trunk areas. It will also focus on developing safe habits in the classroom.
Workshop requirements: Joy recommends that each student has at least 2-3 years of ballet, taking 2-3 classes week, and be comfortable in an Adv Beg level class, knowing terminology and having strong basic ballet technique. We recommend that you go to Capezio for a professional shoe fitting prior to the first class to purchase which pointe shoes are best for you. On the first day of class, we will go over sewing ribbons, elastics, padding, breaking in, etc.
