Workshop Description:
Calling all undercover Ushers and secret Ciaras, the ABW series has a workshop designed just for you and your hidden desire to be a video star!
Yes, the Absolute Beginner Performance Workshop is for those of you with untapped talent who don’t mind a little “Lights! Camera! Action!” with your dancin’! This seven week course will cover the hip-hop basics but the main focus will be grooming you to star in an AB(P)W music video!
Part crash course for non-professionals/part dance video rehearsal, the Absolute Beginner Performance Hip Hop Workshop provides you the opportunity to live out your MTV dreams. Shot entirely at BDC during class, the video will then be edited and uploaded to BDC’s Facebook page --- instantly making you the internet superstar that you always knew you were.
ABW veterans, would-be dancefloor rockers, assorted amateurs and the simply curious are all welcome as we set out to create a new rhythm nation!
Say what? Huh? Who? Still not sure what this performance workshop is all about? Well, check out the video that inspired this AB(P)W and the Halloween-themed follow-up video. And once you’re done, be quick about signing up; space is limited and you’re too fly to be a hip hop workshop have not!
About Q:
Yes, his name is Q and it has nothing to do with Star Trek or James Bond characters. Q recently worked with independent artist Jonté on his debut Japanese DVD project Hello Jontè Moaning and some of his current choreography work include The Real World: Brooklyn and singer-songwriter Lauren Legato. As a choreographer/dancer, some of Q’s other credits include: recording artist Kelis, As The World Turns, The Chris Rock Show, MuchMusic Canada’s MuchOnDemand as well as various projects for MTV, VH1 and Billboard magazine.
Having graduated from Baltimore School for The Arts as a theater major who was influenced by varying disciplines, Q creates choreography, both onstage and in class, that connects the dots between the music, the movement and the message. To hear him tell it, as he often does while working with dancers, “Anyone can dance, but not everyone can perform.”
Registration is now closed.
