W45 Scholarships

Frank Hatchett

The Frank Hatchett “VOP” Scholarship is awarded annually to one CTP student, age 11-17 years, who embodies the life and legacy of our founder, Frank Hatchett. This student demonstrates the vivacious energy, professionalism, hard work and excellence in the arts as well as academics that Frank expected from all of those he taught. The recipient will receive a full scholarship to the Children and Teen Program for one season, a solo performance in the CTP recital, and one-on-one mentoring with Sheila Barker and Lane Napper. Our 2017 scholarship recipient was chosen by the scholarship founders, Sheila Barker and Lane Napper.

2016-2017 Recipient: Aniyah Wilson
Past Recipients: Jared Allen, Olivia Battista

Traver Hecht-Felella

Traver Hecht-Felella passed away on August 31, 2013 at the age of 19. As a young child he always heard music through his feet. Even before being formally trained, Traver dreamed of joining the great tap dancers he watched in old movies. His love of performing and the arts helped define who he was and provided Traver with a way to share and inspire others.

This love of tap dance brought him to the Children and Teen program at Broadway Dance Center. The Hecht-Felella family established a scholarship in Traver’s name for an aspiring young tap dancer at BDC. This dancer will be chosen by the CTP faculty and will receive a full scholarship for his/her tap class for the following CTP season.

2016-2017 Recipients : Michelle Schukin, Samantha Vandever
Past recipients: Olivia Daughty, Shawn Leila Barnett
