Maija Garcia is director of Organic Magnetics and Creative Director/Associate Choreographer of FELA!. Garcia worked alongside Bill T. Jones since 2006, developing the award winning musical off-Broadway (2008), and on Broadway (2009). She re-staged the show at the National Theater of London (2010),  in Lagos Nigeria (2011), and the international tour of FELA! (2011-2012). Maija performed with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company from 2004-2009.

Recent Stage credits: Choreographed A Tribute to Fats Waller at The Gatehouse/Harlem Stage with Jason Moran and Meshell N’degeocello (2011).  Musical Staging/Assistant Directed Neighbors (2010) directed by Niegel Smith at the Public Theater. Choreographed Not Wanted On The Voyage (2010), directed by Amanda Dehnert at Northwestern University/ American Music Theater Project. Directed/Choreographed YaYa Dreams A Future (2010) and Volcano’s Birthrights (2009), Organic Magnetics.

Film/TV Credits: Choreographed Seun Kuti’s music video "RISE," Angelique Kidjo’s music video "Move on Up," "Kidjo’s PBS Special" and "BET Honors."  Choreographed the FELA! national television commercial as well as features on "The Colbert Report," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," "The View" and staged FELA! Zombie for "So You Think You Can Dance, Canada."

With 15 years of professional experience as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and director, Maija has staged works in all of the places she ever called home: New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Ann Arbor, and La Habana, Cuba. Currently teaching movement for actors in New York University’s graduate acting program, and choreography at Yale School of Drama, Maija offers contemporary classes and workshops in New York City, throughout the US and Europe.
