Ami Mattison was born and raised in Michigan. After high school, she moved to New York City where she lived for over 10 years before relocating to Los Angeles. While living in New York, Ami trained and eventually began substitute teaching at Broadway Dance Center. She also taught as faculty, guest artist, and intensive instructor at competitive and recreational studios across New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Maryland. Ami danced for many wonderful artist in New York, including showcase pieces by Sheila Barker, Tracie Stanfield, Calen Kurka, and Maya Escueta, and company work by Erica Michelle Sobol and Chris Hale in CollidE, and Stacie Owen in SO Dance Collective.

Her choreographic work has been seen at DRA:Stars of Tomorrow, Stamford Dance Fest, Enfocus Dance and Peridance Faculty Shows. Since moving to Los Angeles, Ami has become a sought after teacher. She is on faculty at the Edge Performing Arts Center and has traveled nationally teaching master class at studios and universities like Loyola Marymount University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, and American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA). She also teaches and sets choreography on many top competitive studios, and has won several top choreography awards and trained top national soloists. Until last year, Ami continued to dance as a member of collidE dance (Erica Michelle Sobol, artistic director) and was featured in several of collidE's evening length company shows. This past year Ami's focus has turned to her own choreography and she has showcased pieces for Medium.Live.Art, Talent Lab, Mashed Up Contemporary Dance, and Choreographer's Carnival.
