Demi Remick is a YoungArts Gold Winner in Dance. Born and raised in Gilford, New Hampshire, Demi began dancing at Broadway North. Looking for new opportunities, Demi soon joined two local tap companies: New England Tap Ensemble and The Boston Tap Company.
At fifteen, Demi moved to New York City to become a contemporary ballet trainee at the Joffrey Ballet School and to pursue her love of rhythm tap dance. She left public high school and enrolled in online high school. Demi currently lives in a dormitory and studies at several of NYC's top dance studios. Demi is a member of Michelle Dorrance’s Bessie Award Winning company, Dorrance Dance. Her performance experience with Dorrance Dance includes Jacob’s Pillow, Tap the Yard in Martha’s Vineyard, Chicago Human Rhythm Project, SOUNDspace at Danspace Project, and Fall For Dance Festival at New York City City Center.
From 2008-2013, Demi won recognition in the nationwide Reflections Art Program Choreography Contest, twice winning the nationwide Award of Excellence, and this year winning the National PTA Reflections Outstanding Interpretation Award. Demi is a two-time winner of the DC tap festival Cutting Contest. Demi’s choreography has won Excellence in Choreography awards, and Overall High Scores for her students. In June 2012, Demi served as an understudy in Jason Samuels Smith & Company’s show Chasin’ the Bird at the Joyce Theater in NYC.
Demi had the opportunity to be on the faculty of the Brazil International Tap Festival and will be teaching at the Zurich Tap Festival in 2014. In 2013 Demi performed in Canada at DansEncore as a member of Jason Samuels Smith’s company A.C.G.I., worked closely with Bill T. Jones at the YoungArts New York Festival, and attended Mark Morris Summer Intensive, Movement Invention Project, and The Juilliard School Summer Dance Program.
