Josh Walden’s tap class focuses on where the sounds should come from and how to modify one’s own technique to produce cleaner taps with more clarity. He uses a warm-up that emphasizes the importance of initiating all tap steps from the hips. Through a series of flaps, shuffles and time steps, each student will be able to analyze their own habits and make the necessary adjustments to improve their skill level and be more consistent with their sounds. Through across the floor exercises and a quick combo, Josh gives the students an opportunity to put their newfound awareness into action while taking their technique and translating it into a full bodied performance.
